    Marion County Public Works is seeking a County Surveyor for our Engineering Division.  The successful candidate will be an accomplished Professional Land Surveyor who likes challenge and variety in their work, and a desire to work in local government for a mid-sized Oregon county.  Applications will be accepted through Monday, July 24, 2017.

    The County Surveyor is a supervisor and licensed surveyor responsible for managing the County Surveyor’s Office and staff in the carrying out of the statutory and daily operational duties of that office.    Other responsibilities include management of the right-of-way acquisition process; development of the goals, policies and processes of the office; oversight of the survey checking and records programs; administering the county’s corner restoration program; oversight of the provision of survey services for the county capital project program, and other network management needs; and ensures survey operations in the county adhere to applicable survey map standards, Oregon Revised Statutes, and Oregon Administrative Rules.     

    The successful applicant will be a hands-on working manager who possesses strong management skills with up-to-date survey knowledge and advanced technical skills in the fields of surveying, GPS/GIS applications, asset management, and emerging technology.   The position also requires professional-level writing and oral communication skills.  Other required skills include proficiency with  the Leica suite of processing software such as Leica Geo Office or Infinity,  Civil-Survey software such as Carlson and Civil 3 D and ESRI Arcmap. Preference will be given to applicants with skills and experience consistent with the programs they will be managing.  Applicants need to include the appropriate information on their application and in supplemental questions for preference consideration. 

    The position requires a bachelor’s degree in land surveying or related field, a minimum of six years of survey work experience, including a minimum of four years of supervisory experience.  Possession of an Oregon Professional Land Surveyor’s License is required.   Applications must be submitted via
