    JOB INTRODUCTION

    Clackamas County Surveyor’s Office is currently looking to fill a full‐time Land Surveyor vacancy to review partition,

    subdivision, condominium plats, and boundary surveys. The County Surveyor’s Office is part of the Department of

    Transportation and Development of Clackamas County. The Surveyor’s Office primary focus is working with citizens,

    developers, consultants and professional land surveyors to provide them with surveying expertise and advice to perform

    the duties as required by the Oregon Revised Statutes.

    Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

    Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor(PLS) in any state (U.S.) at time of hire, however, incumbent must be

    registered as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Oregon within six (6) months of hire.

    Experience preparing plats and records of survey according to statutes, County Code, OAR, and standards of

    practice as a Land Surveyor.

    Experience conducting research pertaining to survey and related property records.

    Experience locating, compiling, and organizing complex and historical survey data.

    CAD experience.

    Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, and instruments used in land surveying.

    Thorough knowledge of federal or state statutes and other rules and regulations governing land surveying

    principles, practices, methods, standards, and record keeping.

    Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

    Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the required

    knowledge and skills.

    Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:

    Professional technical report writing experience.

    Professional Land Surveyor licensed in the State of Oregon.

    Supervisory or lead worker experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     Uses Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative Rules, standards of practice, and county and city

    ordinances to review partition, subdivision and condominium plats and boundary surveys.

     Conducts research pertaining to projects and utility permit applications.

     Provides advice and assistance to property owners, developers, contractors, attorneys, title companies, other

    agencies and the public on various aspects of land surveying.

     Answers questions and provides information on property boundaries.

     Schedules, coordinates, and reviews the work of survey technicians on assigned projects.

     Regularly uses trigonometry and geometry in survey calculations, including COGO and CAD software.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Thorough knowledge of:

    Principles, methods and instruments used in land surveying; federal and state statutes, rules and regulations governing

    land survey methods, standards of practice and record keeping; drafting and mapping techniques; basic engineering

    mathematics, including coordinate geometry and trigonometry; office practices and equipment, including computer

    terminals; research techniques.

    Some knowledge of:

    Supervisory techniques.

    Skill to:

    Prepare survey documents, including drawings, maps, plats, legal descriptions, deed restrictions and agreements;

    conduct research pertaining to survey and related property records; locate, compile and organize complex and outdated

    survey data; establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, private surveyors, developers,

    construction contractors, County employees and the public; prepare and maintain accurate records; communicate

    effectively, both orally and in writing.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. Specific hours of work will be

    discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The mission of the Department of Transportation and Development (DTD) is to assist citizens and businesses in creating

    vibrant, sustainable communities through innovative and responsive public service.

    DTD is responsible for a broad range of county services involving land use planning and permitting, building permits,

    county code enforcement, solid waste and recycling, road construction and maintenance, surveying, plat review and

    approval, public land corner restoration and dog services. The county’s urban renewal programs also report to DTD.
