    The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the Geometronics Geodetic Control Program. The Geodetic Control program is designed to revive, enhance, and then maintain the vertical and horizontal control infrastructure across the state of Oregon. This control network forms the foundation for all surveys, private and/or government, in Oregon.  

    This position makes day-to-day decision relating to the performance of Vertical Control surveys; the establishment and subsequent maintenance of the GPS Reference Station Network; the coordination of ODOT and consultant survey crews performing this work; and the processing, analysis and adjustment of related survey data.  This position works relatively independently. The only guidance is provided by the ODOT Chief of Surveys and advice from NGS.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate the development of a Statewide Permanent GPS Reference Station Network.
    • Research the emerging technologies related to the GPS Reference Station Networks.
    • Continue the development of Statewide GPS Reference Station Network; coordinate closely with other public and private Reference Station partners.
    • Coordinate the installation of ODOT owned GPS Reference Stations and provide daily monitoring and maintenance of the operations of the network.
    • Provide Expertise, Administer, and Oversee ODOT and Consultant Vertical Control surveys.
    • Provide quality assurance review of ODOT and consultant work relating to the establishment of Bench Marks.
    • Coordinate the Restoration of the Statewide Control Network.
    • Monitor ODOT construction/project development activity for potential destruction of Bench Marks (proactive preservation)
    • Develop condition and status reports relating to the Vertical Control infrastructure.
    • Extensive overnight statewide travel which may be in adverse weather conditions. Must work in the field with survey crews to provide on-the-job training and assistance.  Field work may be in remote area, during inclement weather, and alone.  Contact with public which may be hostile at times.

    Minimum Qualifications
    A valid Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire)


    Three (3) years of journey level professional surveyor experience.
