    Job Summary

    As a Civil Engineering Assistant, this position will report and provide technical support to the City Surveyor.  This work includes, but is not limited to, land division plat checking, preparation and review of legal descriptions, records research, occasional field survey work, and other survey related tasks.  The following job summary includes a general description of civil engineering responsibilities; however, this positions main focus will be survey related.  Land Surveying Intern (LSI) certification is desirable for this position.

    Examples of Work

    Project Development--Lead a team that prepares right-of-way maps, engineering plans, plats, and descriptions for a Professional Land Surveyor to be used for the purchase of property for agency projects.  Develop surveying cost estimates and construction schedules. 
    Survey - Survey work involves responsibility for checking land division plats, preparing and reviewing legal descriptions, survey record research, occasionally directing a survey party, performing land surveys for right-of-way, easements, mapping, construction of engineering projects, boundaries, and GPS.  Work requires application of precise engineering and survey knowledge gained through education, training, and experience.  

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education, experience, certifications and/or licenses required and/or preferred.

    ·         Must be 18 years of age

    ·         Must pass the pre-employment background check

    ·         Must have an Oregon Driver license

    ·         Must have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards

    ·         A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field.

    ·         OR a combination of education and experience equating to at least four years of survey work experience.

    ·         Depending on assignment, one of the following certifications may be required: Land Surveying Intern (LSI) certification or Engineering Intern (EI) Certificate
