PLSO will be at Overland Expo this month!

PLSO will be exhibiting at Overland Expo Pacific Northwest in Redmond, June 26–28, and we'd love to see fellow surveyors stop by the booth.

This event brings together thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, and adventure-minded individuals from across the Pacific Northwest, making it a unique opportunity to introduce the public to the land surveying profession. We'll be sharing information about surveying careers, talking to veterans about becoming surveyors, pathways to licensure, and the important role surveyors play in defining boundaries, supporting infrastructure, and managing land resources.

If you're attending the Expo, please stop by and say hello. If you're interested in helping us engage with attendees and promote the profession, we'd love to visit with you as well.

We look forward to representing Oregon surveying and connecting with both current and future members of our profession in Redmond this month.

Horizontal Curve Layout and Slope Staking Made Easy

Want to improve your understanding of retracing historic right-of-way boundaries? Curious how to evaluate found monuments that don't appear to agree?

Join the PLSO Willamette Chapter for a hands-on workshop on Saturday, August 1, hosted at Cascade Timber Consulting in Sweet Home.

Instructor: John Wise, PLS, former Linn County surveyor with extensive experience in public road surveys.

The day will begin with an indoor presentation, followed by field exercises and demonstrations covering horizontal curve layout and slope staking. Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments, though it is not required. Field activities will utilize vernier transits, theodolites, steel tapes, and plumb bobs.

Time: 8:00 a.m. through the afternoon
Location: Cascade Timber Consulting, 3210 Hwy 20, Sweet Home
Meeting Location: Old hall at the east end of the campus
Cost: $15 (payable at the door)

Participants are expected to receive 6 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and a certificate of completion.
