    Grades: B22- B24

    B22: $25.64- $38.46/ hour (Engineering Technician I: Contributing level)
    B23: $28.28- $42.42/ hour (Engineering Technician II: Journey level) B24: $31.11- $46.67/ hour (Engineering Technician III: Advanced level)
    Pay dependent on qualifications and based on State of Oregon defined bona fide factors in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

    Position Overview:

    The City of Springfield has an opening for an Engineering Technician in the Development & Public Works Department. The positions will provide support for land development, capital improvements, survey, and real property. Generally, responsibilities will include 1) technical review of plats and floodplain applications, 2) civil engineering field survey, inspections, and CAD design, 3) field and office survey boundary, control and right of way, and4) research real property title and preparing legal documents. 

    Training & Experience:

    The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications.

    • Associates degree or two-year technical certification in the field of engineering, geomatics, surveying or a closely related field, and experience as necessitated;

    • Engineering Technician I: Minimum of 1 year of general experience in the engineering field. Has limited experience surveying, drafting, and designing. A limited understanding of engineering principles and instruments, construction principles, and design. This level would work on basic engineering designs.

    • Engineering Technician II: Minimum of 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in the engineering field. Has working knowledge of engineering principles, construction principles and instruments. Can operate mostly independently, surveying, drafting, and designing in areas such as streets, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and traffic. This level would be expected to work on moderately complex engineering designs.

    • Engineering Technician III: Minimum of 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in the engineering field. Has thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction principles, and instruments. Can operate independently, drafting, and designing in the areas such as street, sanitary sewer, and stormwater design and can teach others.

    Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education and experience may be considered qualifying. Preferences may be given for knowledge and experience: • AutoCAD Civil 3D • GPS/GNSS (DPGS) receiver-rover/base station • Robotic Total Station

    Preference may be given for the following licensing of certifications:

    • Land Surveyor Intern or Engineer in Training

    • Certified Survey Technician I, II, III, or IV from National Society of Professional Land Surveyors

    • ODOT Certifications for:

    o General Construction Inspector

    o Hot Mix Asphalt Concrete (HMAC) Inspector

    o Environmental and Erosion Constructor Inspector

    o Traffic Signal Inspector (CTSI)

    Licenses & Certifications:

    • Valid Oregon Driver’s License at time of appointment.
