The next South Central Chapter meeting will be held May 22d at Oregon Institute of Technology in conjunction with two presentations by Gerry Clark of the Oregon Water Resources Department. We are inviting students from multiple programs and any Surveyors, Engineers, Geologist, and other professionals that are interested in Oregon water rights and the CWRE program.  The first presentation at 5PM is targeted at the student population and those with little to no experience in water rights, and the second presentation at 630PM is geared more towards the practicing professional that may have a CWRE or is interested in pursuing the exam.  Attendees are welcome to attend one or both presentations.

Under Oregon law, all water belongs to the public. With some exceptions, cities, irrigators, businesses, and other water users must obtain a permit or license from the Water Resources Department to use water from any source - whether it is underground, or from lakes or streams. Generally speaking, landowners with water flowing past, through, or under their property do not automatically have the right to use that water without authorization from the Department.  Mr. Gerry Clark of the Oregon Water Resources Department will be speaking to ORTECH students and practicing professionals about the basics of laws and policies concerning water rights in the State. He will also go more in depth about the role of a CWRE along with the process and importance for professionals to pursue the CWRE credential to best serve the public.
