    What you will do: 
    The Deputy City Surveyor works closely with the City Surveyor to manage survey projects related to land development and City Improvement Projects. This role manages multiple projects with administrative responsibility and provides supervision, quality control, and assurance over activities managed by professional and technical staff at lower levels.
     
    The successful candidate is an accomplished experienced land surveyor who likes challenges and diversity in work and desires to work for a local municipal government in a mid-sized Oregon city. Punctual, regular, and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance. This position works under the direction of the City Surveyor or designee.

    Additional information on job responsibilities:

    • Serve as Interim City Surveyor when the City Surveyor is unavailable.
    • Responsible for affixing professional seal and signature on all documents prepared by the Deputy City Surveyor or under their direct supervision.
    • Responsible for the direct management and evaluation of assigned staff.
    • Provide technical expertise, information, interpretation, and reference to other disciplines on state code, county code, city code, plans, projects, policies, practices, and standards applicable to land surveying.
    • Provide technical and survey field support for City Capital Improvement Projects.
    • Research various survey-related issues of City-owned right-of-way, easements, private ownership, and potential interests.
    • Responsible for writing or reviewing boundary descriptions prepared by or for the City of Salem.
    • Responsible for mathematical checks and review of subdivision and partition plats, property line adjustments, records of surveys and deeds prepared by or for the City of Salem, or private land development.
    • Performing other related duties as assigned.

    • The position schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Our team follows a hybrid schedule working in-office 1457 23rd St SE 3 days a week and remotely for the rest with manager approval. This is subject to change based on business needs.

    What are the minimum qualifications?
    • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
    • Must have an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in surveying or civil engineering, and five years of related experience including progressively responsible managerial experience in surveying, or any combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
    • Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor by the State of Oregon at time of hire.
