SALARY: $28.31 - $36.93 Hourly (DOE)

The Lincoln County Surveyor's Office is currently looking for a Survey Technician 2 to join their team. The person in this role will perform land surveying assignments using knowledge of Cadastral and Geodetic surveying under direction of a licensee in the office. They will also work establishing and reviewing Government Corners, maintaining County Geodetic Control Network, and researching records and documents. This position is also responsible for reviewing surveys, partition plats, and subdivisions under ORS 209.250 and 92.
The Lincoln County Surveyor's Office is currently looking to hire a Survey Technician 2 OR a Cadastral Surveyor. All applications will be reviewed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete field and office survey work including control surveys; cadastral surveys; corner restoration, and geodetic computations:
- Conduct research and calculations.
- Conduct field observations and field and office calculations necessary to generate geodetic control and azimuth marks.
- Conduct office and field research and apply judgement necessary to locate, evaluate, and monument original Public Land Survey System corners.
Review surveys, partition plats, and subdivisions under ORS 209.250 and 92.
Utilize Global Navigation Satellite System in the design and implementation Geodetic Control Networks, including establishing control monuments, organization of field equipment, and operating satellite survey equipment:
- Operate a variety of survey equipment, i.e. Total station, GNSS Receiver, etc. to traverse section lines, run levels, reference and monument corners, and perform control traverse.
- Operate survey related software for calculations and generation of survey plats (CAD).
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation on all projects and activities.
Research property records, deeds, maps, surveys, field notes, and information kept in Surveyor’s Office, Clerk’s Office, Assessor’s Office, Road Department, timber companies and other governmental agencies such as BLM, BPA, Oregon State Forestry, for pertinent information relevant to on-going survey projects.
Respond to questions from the public regarding professional and technical survey topics:
- Provide interpretation of land records, surveys, laws, and regulations.
- May deal with irate and distraught individuals at times.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High School Diploma / GED
EXPERIENCE
Four-Five years of survey work.
Any satisfactory equivalent combination of course work, experience, and training to be knowledgeable about land surveying.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
Desirable Qualifications: Proficiency in Computer Aided Design and Drafting. Pursuing a path towards licensure as a professional land surveyor in Oregon. Undergraduate surveying (or similar) degree. LSI registration with OSBEELS. FAA part 107.
Knowledge of/Ability to:
· Oregon State Plane Coordinate System.
· Public Land Survey System.
· Cadastral and geodetic surveying principles.
· Statutory and common law applicable to surveying.
· Cursive writing (1800s style to present).
· Use field and office surveying instruments and CAD drafting.
· Conduct research and understand legal descriptions.
· Operate hand and power tools; excavate soil, pavement, and concrete; 4x4 driving; and move equipment over rough terrain.
